Italy's Chincoteague Island

M takes me to a National Park for Birdwatching, Italian, and Hiking

sunny 12 °C

What a great opportunity. M invited me to go along on a trip with an Italian hiking group. A day with M, hiking, and Italian immersion - about as good as it gets. We headed out very early in the morning and met up with the rest of the group. After we joined up, it was still about a two hour drive to the National Park - Riserva Naturale della Foce dell'Isonzo. It is a river delta not too far from Trieste. The delta is part of the migratory flyway, so there are birds in abundance. We walked around the island, from blind to blind, observing the birds and the wild horses. There was even an area of active beekeeping.

After lunch we all walked out to the very end of the peninsula from where we could see the shipping channels and view Trieste in the distance.

On the way back, M and I discovered that the wild horses were not so wild.
